• About

Sealed Art is a marketplace founded by 0xngmi and Robek. Main distinguishing features are Vikrey Auctions, Subscriptions, and Vouching. The purpose of this site is to contribute towards it's survival.

    Background

Many marketplaces have come and gone (x2y2,anifty,makersplace). The ones that survive have pivoted their priorities so much that they no longer serve the original collectors (foundation, uniswap) Many NFT projects have also been abandoned.

Blockchain is built on decentralization yet to be practical, we have leaned on centralization. As of today, the internet heavily relies on Google, Cloudflare, and Amazon. Even our blockchain technology relies on mostly Metamask and Infura.

    Technical Challenges

They don't build them like they use to.

Generally speaking, technology has prioritized quick profits over sustainability. The simplest example is the fact that our most common hard drives currently only last 10 yrs while paper lasts 100 yrs.

Web stack currently has some issues with web3 due to different priorities. Speed became more important than quality. Most web apps do not need to be military or medical grade. Due to technology not being designed to last, financial cost of maintenance increase over time. This causes projects that don't have immediate return to get trashed.

    Rationale

Decentralization will always be less efficient, less reliable, and slower than centralization. What we gain isn't efficiency but predictability, stability, and exponential value through collaboration. Building for the long-term leverages decentralization the best. Security and centralization don't match because there is no such thing as an impenetrable shield. Instead we need a shield that lasts long enough for us to dodge. That is what decentralization gives us. That is why diversity matters. It is a canary warning for all things.

The smart contracts may be decentralized but it's only the first step of many. It also needs to be efficient (low gas), stable (immutable), and accessible (frontends). There should be many frontends for any one contract. All contributions towards a project should be transparent and recorded so that any future contributors have everything they need to figure out where they can contribute and if their contribution will stick (impact - nothing hurts more than your time wasted even if paid).

    Why support Sealed Marketplace?

There's many ways to write a smart contract but these were designed best for longetivity: efficient, immutable, and different. One of my favorite parts of the manifesto is that the founders state they will always be here so long as it's humanly possible. What this means to me is the realization that there isn't likely anyone out there to "save our bags" because most have moved on. Yet there will always be a few that will never accept to lose what money cannot replace. If you are those few, then you have to stand up and fight because again, no one is there to "save your bags".

    Priorities

    Compliment not compete.

In order to compliment not compete with other projects, we state our priorities based on filling what is lacking in the space and allows other projects to do the same with us.

Proposed Difference between KK779's Sealed Marketplace vs Official Sealed Marketplace

This may or may not be true. It's just a proposed direction.
